Membership
The Sustainable Living Initiative aims to be a membership-based organisation. So anyone, including young people under 16, who supports the broader objectives of the organisation and wishes to get involved in the activities of the organisation, can apply for membership. In the case of young people under 16, parental consent is required. The current membership fee is £5 per year or a day's worth of time contributed to the organisation.
What can members expect?
First of all, your membership of the Sustainable Living Initiative shows your commitment to a sustainable lifestyle. This includes promoting closer links between people and nature, respecting other people's right to live and prosper and recognises the importance of non-material values in improving our quality of life. SLI provides a forum for members to form discussion or activity-based groups and organise regular meetings to share ideas and initiate collaborative action in the following subject areas:
-
Growing vegetables on allotments/garden
-
Skills sharing
-
Recycling/reusing
-
Research/dissemination
-
Any other brilliant ideas!
Secondly, all the members will receive an invitation to our annual food event. The event takes place during the summer and is combined with our Annual General Meeting (AGM). The overall purpose of this event is primarily social - that is, a coming together of friends and families affiliated with the organisation. The event will also provide opportunities for children and families of members:
-
to gain greater awareness about sustainable living
-
to learn how to grow vegetable/fruits on allotments/gardens
-
to prepare recipes using fresh produce from allotments/gardens
-
to promote cooperation and friendship
Other benefits include information about ethical/green living, advice/support on growing vegetables and fruit on allotments and gardens, and a 20% discount on the purchase of plants and vegetables grown on allotments.
