The Grow Our Own (GO2) Centre
The success of the GO2 scheme in its initial years has encouraged us to expand the scheme – not simply to add more plots but also start new activities. We are currently working on the idea of setting up a “Grow Our Own (GO2) Centre”, with the aim of promoting sustainable development in Norwich in a holistic way. This will include:
1. Increasing the number of allotment plots - from 10 currently to a maximum of 30
within the next three years;
2. Building a shed - which will be used as a meeting place and information centre;
3. A composting loo for use by members and visitors;
4. Composting demonstration using a variety of methods such as, heap composting, wormery, tumbler;
5. Community nursery - expanding the existing facilities and making it accessible to
people who would like to grow fruit and vegetables in their own garden;
6. Provision of plots for grow-our-own - for up to 50 new growers next year;
7. Training and hands on practical help to existing and new growers;
8. Community support scheme - whereby people living in the surrounding area will
have opportunity to take part in the training run by the centre and get advice and
practical help;
9. Volunteer scheme - for those who are unable to commit time for growing but are
interested in helping others in return for free produce from the allotment;
10. Expanding the ‘Pick-Your-Own’ scheme, mainly focussing on families with children;
11. Making the existing picnic area bigger and accessible to people with disability(ies).
