Clear up beds with any finished crops and prepare the soil for over-wintering crops such as, garlic, onion, broad bean and green manure. Draw soil up around brassicas (a term used for vegetables such as cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts) to protect from frost; mulch using leaf mould and garden waste. Support tall brassica plants to protect from winds. Protect all brassica and spinach plants using net before pigeons return. Cutback strawberry plants to 2.5 cm (1 inch) from the ground; do not compost strawberry leaves.
